Who is Labubu?

A common question is “Who is Labubu” and the short answer is that she is a popular doll that started out as a character from a series of illustrated books called The Monsters that was created by Kasing Lung.

Not many people knew who is Labubu until Pop Mart purchased a licensing agreement and started to make Labubu dolls.

And then in 2024, Labubu became super popular and viral when Lisa from the music group Blackpink started to carry Labubu dolls around.

2 Types of Labubu Dolls

There are basically 2 types of Labubu dolls

1 ) Labubu Keychain Sold in Blind Boxes

What are Labubu Keychains?!

These are Labubu doll keychains that are 4 to 6 inches tall and have a keychain pendant attached to them.

The keychain attached is super detailed, high quality and this is how it’s attached to the Labubu dolls.

These Labubu dolls have a keychain attached and you attach them to purses, backpacks, cars, phones, etc.

These dolls do NOT come with outfits but you can buy outfits to dress them up

These Labubu doll keychains are sold in blind boxes which means it’s a mystery box and you don’t know which version you’re getting.

There have been four Labubu keychain blind box releases as of May 2026

1 ) Labubu Macaron Keychain V1

TheExciting Macaron was the first keychain Labubu released in Oct. 2023 and is commonly referred to as Labubu V1

Because it was the first version of Labubu keychains, it is commonly referred as Labubu V1

2 ) Labubu Have a Seat Keychain V2

Have a Seat was the second Labubu pendant released and came out in July 2024 and is known as Labubu V2

The Baba and Dada versions are two of the Top 10 Most Popular Labubu Dolls.

These Labubu doll keychains are all sitting down and slightly shorter than Labubu Macaron and are 5.9 inches (15cm) tall.

3) Labubu Big Into Energy V3

Big Into Energy was the third keychain set released in April 2025 and is known as Labubu V3.

All the Labubu keychains in this series have a tie dyed design.

4) Labubu Pin for Love V4

The Pin for Love set is known as Labubu V4 and was released in August 2025.

It’s divided into 2 Groups:

This Labubu keychain small version is known as mini Labubu because they’re much tinier and was designed to be small enough to attach to a smartphone.

What is a Blind Box

Blind boxes are sealed mystery boxes where you don’t know what exact Labubu doll you’ll get.

You could get any version from that set.

All the sets above were sold in sealed blind boxes.

When you buy a blind box you also have a chance to get one of the Labubu secret characters such as Chestnut Cocoa, Duoduo, ID, Heart or Exclamation.

2 ) Labubu Plush Dolls

The second type of Labubu dolls are big plush dolls and sold individually. Asides from Rock the Universe and Zimomo, all of them come dressed.

If Labubu keychains are meant to be carried around, these big Labubu dolls are made for hugs and for display.

They’re different and 2 to 5 times bigger than the more common Labubu keychain dolls that most people carry around.

Pop Mart is the maker of Labubu and in 2026 you can easily buy the more common Labubu dolls on the website, app or at stores.

2 ) Amazon

Surprisingly Amazon has a very limited selection and the prices are sometimes higher than what you’d pay on eBay

3 ) eBay

For limited dolls that are no longer released by Pop Mart, we recommend eBay because they have the widest selection of Labubu dolls and also a good return policy.

4 ) Local Resellers

There are also toy stores and gift shops that sell Labubu dolls but you have to be careful because often they are fake Labubu.

How to Tell Real Original Labubu Dolls from Fake

Fake Labubu or Lafufu as they’re called are everywhere!

1 ) Too Good To Be True Rule

If the deal is too good to be true (around or below retail price), then it’s probably a fake.

2 ) Quantity Available

There are not many authorized sellers of Labubu so is a random restaurant or gift shop has dozens of Labubu dolls on display, it’s probably a fake!

Every Labubu doll has a unique QR code.

How to tell the difference between real Labubu dolls versus fakes by scanning the QR code

Be cautious if the QR code has been scanned too many times because that means that QR code may have been copied from a real doll

4 ) Seller Ratings

If you’re buying online make sure you only buy from a seller that has over 100 positive reviews and look specifically for positive feedback on past sales of Labubu dolls.
